Honeymoon Shenanigans

Here are some photos taken almost four months ago. I thought some might be interested in seeing them.

The first two are of our sweet jungle themed room.

We had a six hour layover in San Francisco and we had 3 hours of sleep the night before.

This is part of our room at the resort in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. I didn't think anyone would really care to see the bathroom and bedroom ;) The whole place was nice though. We even had our own washer and dryer...thank goodness!

We went on a jet ski tour in the ocean. I had never ridden one in the ocean before and it was a blast. I even threw Tyler and I off once. It was funny until I was stung by a million jelly fish...

The resort put on a fiesta so of course we went to it. They gave out tequila like water! Too bad neither of us drink.

One night we cooked ourselves a nice mexican dish, chicken enchiladas. They were delicious.

We, also, went on a zip line adventure through a desert canyon near our resort. We looked super cool...

There were I think six different zip lines that went back and fourth through the canyon. They started out small and then got bigger and bigger. It was a blasty blast!

There was a "Tarzan Swing", which was pretty fun. I almost lost my shoe though. This is Tyler going on it.

This bridge was really wobbly. They had to clip us to a cable so we wouldn't fall off.

At the very end of the adventure we had to repel back down. It was actually really high up so it was a rush. We both loved it though.

Beauty. Brains. And Now More Brawn.

I think I'm in love...

Tyler and I have had our laptops for too many years to admit. Recently both of them died and we have been looking into buying a new macbook. Tyler only has a year of school and I am done so we thought maybe we didn't NEED a laptop. That being said we decided on a beautiful desk top. And when you're going to buy a computer you might as get what you really want. So, now we are sporting a brand new 24" iMac and we've never been happier! It's sleek, it's sexy, and faster than anything we've ever owned. My last advertising/marketing job I had this exact computer at my desk and it was hard to part from, but now I can come home to my new love every day.

Tyler showed his mom the day after we got it and she told him to show his dad and talk him into one. Ha ha, so he did and now they have a beauty of their own. The University bookstore was having a killer deal on them. It was $210 off the original price, plus you got a free printer/scanner/copier, AND a free ipod touch! Now we just need to purchase CS3 and I will be the happiest girl on earth.

Now I know everyone posts these pictures when they buy a mac, but you can't help but love the built-in camera that you can't even see. Anyway, we took like a million of these pictures and died laughing through most of them. Here are a few for your enjoyment.

Rexburg Conversations

I love Rexburg. I love all the outdoor activities available, I love BYU-Idaho, I even love all the crazy Mormons! Here is a conversation I had in the library on campus last week: (I know I'm not a student anymore, but we don't have Internet at our place yet...)

So, I'm sitting at one of the new iMacs in the library. Why didn't they have these in the library when I was a student?! My ipod was plugged in because I had some stuff saved on it I wanted to get off. Then I hear, "Listening to anything good?" from behind me. I waited for a minute to see if someone else would respond, but soon realized the question was directed toward me. I turned around and answered that I wasn't actually listening the anything...yada, yada, yada, as the young librarian boys is trying to make conversation with me. Eventually, he comes over and sits next to me to use one of the macs and I try to ignore him, but he continues to ask questions. Finally, he leaves.

Next day, I'm at the library again. We don't have Internet and I needed to get out of the apartment. Back in the same spot in the library my little friend sits right across from me. Isn't he supposed to be filing books or something? More questions from him. Where are you from? What's your major? Oh you're graduated, in what? What is your ethnicity? Alaska? So, you're Eskimo? Oh, I didn't know Eskimos weren't Native American...And on and on. He just won't leave me alone. Eventually he notices the ring on my hand and asked me what my husband is going to school for. I thought he would leave me alone when he found out, but no.

Two days later. I'm back at the library because there is nothing left to clean in my apartment, Tyler is still gone at school, we don't have cable, and I can't read on our floor anymore, (we don't have a couch yet.) Sitting at nearly the exact same computer my friends sits right next to me again. I don't know his name because I never asked. I never asked him any questions actually. I never wanted to talk to him in the first place.
I don't know what we were talking about, but out of nowhere he asks me, "So, when do you turn 21?" I don't know where he got the number. Why would he just assume I was 20? What a weirdo.
"21?" I ask.
"Yeah 21."
"I'm 25."
"You got married at 25?!"
"Well, actually I was 24, but I turned 25 soon after."
"Why did you wait so long?!" This guy is flabbergasted.
"I don't know. Because it's a pretty serious commitment."
"Were you really picky or something?"
"Maybe, I don't know." Why does this guy even care?!
"No really, you can tell me if you were really picky."

BYU-Idaho students never cease to amaze me.

Safe No More

With the combination of watching too many scary movies and having very vivid dreams, I tend to have a lot of "nightmares". Through the years I've learned to deal with these nightmares. As a child I would go to my parents room and they would let me sleep on the floor next to their bed. Most of the time this was scarier than in my own bed, but there was a sense of security still. As I got older my tactic was that my bed was always a safe place. When I woke up from scary dreams I would look around the dark room and let my imagination go wild. But, I always told myself that nothing would happen to me if I just stayed under my covers and in my bed.

On August 25th 2008 at approximately 3:40am I was lying sound asleep in our new basement apartment in Rexburg, ID. Luckily for me, I am a light sleeper. Half conscious and half asleep I hear scratching on my pillow above my head. After a couple seconds I slowly realize that scratching on my pillow is also tugging slightly at my hair. Another couple seconds go by and I realize what is really happening and I abruptly sit up and fling my hair. In the 2 foot gap between our bed and dresser there were some pillows still in their original plastic bag and I hear what was just on my pillow hit that bag. It sounded so light and quiet. I laid back down still confused as to what just happened. "Was there really just something on my pillow scratching at my hair or did I just imagine it all?" When I was fully awake I woke up Tyler and told him that something was just on my pillow and when I sat up it fell onto the floor.

I wake Tyler up a lot with my crazy dreams and wild imagination. One time I told him a ghost was moving my ring on the nightstand. Turns out it was our bedroom door which desperately needed some WD40. So, needless to say he didn't really believe me when I said something was on my pillow. His first sarcastic question was, "Was it a cat?" We don't own a cat. "No, it was smaller." Was my reply. Next question, "Was it a bug?" Still not believing me. "No, it was bigger." Finally, after I wouldn't let it go he asked if I wanted him to get up and turn on the light to try and find it. "YES!"

He turned on the light and started ducking under the bed and dresser on my side. He moved the pillows in the bag where I said it hit and there was nothing there. Now looking at me, "See, it was nothing." Then, which I feel was the best part of the entire experience, he yells, "Holy crap!" and jumps higher than I have ever seen him jump right onto the bed at my feet. His reaction scared me half to death and my heart was racing. I asked him what he saw and apparently a little baby mouse had darted from behind the dresser to under the bed! GROSSSSS!

I little baby mouse was scratching at my pillow and tugging at my hair while I was asleep! How did that rodent even get up there? The top of our bed is a solid yard from the ground. After discussing how disgusting that was we tried to go back to sleep, but all I could think about was, "My bed isn't even safe anymore. How am I ever going to sleep again?"

Later that day we were running errands and Tyler asked me why I had dark circles under my eyes. "Do you not remember that a mouse was in my hair earlier this morning?!"

Picture Flop

Posting wedding pictures seemed to be an anticipated event,(or as anticipating as it can get for my little blog), to those few of you who take some time to stop by. But, alas, it seems as though it was a pretty boring post. Ha ha, I received more comments on my "controversial" Stephanie Meyer post.
That being said, I will once again post my opinion about her final book and the fantastic reviews published post-release. Honestly, I haven't read them because I hear they are a spoiler. And, I haven't read the book because since the 11th of this month we have packed, cleaned, driven 35 hrs and have seven more tomorrow, and hung out with family in Indianapolis, Spokane, and soon Rexburg. Needless to say, life has been busy. But, once we move into our new apartment within the next week and I find a decent job the book will be read. Until then, here are a few recent reads and my thoughts on them:

First Comes Love by Douglas E Brinley and Mark Ogletree
Being prepared for marriage before taking the plunge was always important to me. Maybe that's why it took me a little longer to settle down. Reading this book, along with life experience and observations, was my preparation. The writing was good...but a little old fashion with the terminology. What 20-something year old calls their boyfriend/girlfriend their sweetheart? Probably half of the information was, well for the lack of a better word, informational. The other half would most likely be more suitable for someone of a younger age, say an 18 year old engaged Mormon girl for example. So do I think you should read it? Yes, if it applies to your situation, it can only help.

Miracle of Forgiveness by Spencer W Kimball
Yes, it is sad that I just finished this book. And yes, you should read it if you haven't and read it again if you have.

The Proper Care and Feeding of Husbands by Laura Schlessinger
I'll admit it was a pretty good book. I learned a bit and enjoyed reading the ridiculous things women would say/write/ask Dr. Laura. Some women out there are just plain selfish. The only thing I didn't agree with was that women have the ultimate power to change their marriage for the better. OK she didn't come out and say that, but I felt like that's what she was saying. It takes two to make a marriage work. And I'm not saying that because I have sooo much experience, but there are too many people with loads of experience that do say that. In my opinion, you women out there should take the time to read it, married or not.

What We Wish We'd Known When We Were Newlyweds by John and Kimberly Bytheway
Honestly, we yes we haven't finished it yet. We are trying to read it together, but that has been a challenging for us. So far so good. Not excellent, but good. Once, again it couldn't hurt to read, only help.

Between Husband and Wife: Gospel Perspectives on Marital Intimacy by Stephen E Lamb and Douglas E Brinley
You may have noticed a trend or two on my readings...I like to be prepared :) I was informed that his book was "lame" I believe was the direct quote from the giver of the book. So, of course I read it first thing. And although I wouldn't use that exact word, I would say most of the reading was a waste of time for me. Although, a very sheltered young girl would benefit greatly from it. I must say there was one chapter that I found interesting and informational and it was all about the specifics biologically. Anyway, onto some books that are a tad different.

Twilight "series" by Stephanie Meyer
I read all three in a couple of weeks between my measly 30 hours a week I was working this summer. So, I tried to speed through them because I DID enjoy the ridiculous yet intriguing story. All the while, I cringed at the writing "style", is what I will call it. In my opinion I did not like the writing style of Mrs., or should I say Sister Meyer? If you read a TON breeze through the series, if not wait for the movies. They will probably be more exciting.

Angles and Demons by Dan Brown
Very exciting and very well written. Read it. Although, you probably already have.

Feel the Fear And Do It Anyway by Susan Jeffers
Pretty good. I learned a few good things about how fear can take over your life. I've always wanted to be less afraid of many things and I think she gave some good advice. A lot of the tactics she suggest I wouldn't do, but they seem like they would work. The whole time reading I was thinking, I'm greatful for the knowledge I have of the plan. I think it really makes life easier.

Well, I'm pretty sure that's all I've gotten through this summer. Some good, some bad, and some in between.

Now here is a nice shot of us making the trip across half the great U.S. of A.

Yes, he drove and I laid on his lap. Such a nice man :)

And here is one from the honeymoon in Mexico. I will post more of those later!

I Miss My Mac :(

So at my last job for that advertising company my work computer was a new 24" iMac that I loved more than anything. I had the new Adobe Suite (CS3) on it and now I have nothing! No computer. No Adobe.

Tyler showed me this trick at our club house computers, (where the "motherboard" is all locked up)...just unsrew the lock! It's a little difficult to explain, but all that really matters is now I can post some wedding pictures.

Unfortunately, I have been unable to edit any of them in photoshop so they aren't too extravagent. I hope you enjoy them anyway.

P.S. I'm sorry they are so big. I didn't want to save them onto this computer and shrink them all...so deal with it ;)

OK, I can't do this anymore. That's what you get to see out of the 500 taken in Rexburg. I will post the Spokane ones later...don't worry, there aren't as many. Until next time, keep on keepin' on.
